Once there was an honest woodcutter. He leads his life cutting wood and selling to a near market. One day when he was cutting a tree his axe fell into a deep pond. He was very upset about his axe. He cried more and more for his axe because he had no other axe. So, he observed a long sitting under the pond side tree. He had nothing to do as the pond was very deep and terrible. So he couldn't recover his axe. When he cried loudly, Suddenly a fairy came out into the pond. The woodcutter was afraid of seeing this fairy. The fairy asked him " why he was crying". The woodcutter told him all. Then fairy sank into the pond and came again with a gold axe. The fairy said to the woodcutter, " was that your axe"?. The woodcutter saw the axe attentively and replied in the negative. Then fairy again sank into the pond and came again with a silver one. That time again the woodcutter replied that it was not his axe. Then the fairy understands his honesty of him. The fairy became very pleased with him. Then the fairy sunk into the pond a third time and came with this iron axe. It was the wood cutter's axe. This time the woodcutter knew his axe and replied that it was his axe. Then the fairy understand the honesty of the woodcutter and gave him the three axe as a requite for his honesty. The woodcutter became very happy to get gold, silver and his iron axe. His honesty gave him big prizes. After some days another clever woodcutter heard this story pond-side. And he went to this pond side and cut a tree. He threw his axe into the pond for getting the gold and silver axe. That time the fairy again came up from this pond with a golden axe. And asked the woodcutter that was it his? The clever woodcutter didn't tackle his cleverly. He replied that it was his axe. Then the fairy understood that he was a clever and liar man. So, the fairy is vanished by this time. The clever man lost his iron axe also.

একজন সৎ কাঠুরে

একসময় এক সৎ কাঠমিস্ত্রি ছিল। সে কাঠ কেটে কাছের বাজারে বিক্রি করে তার জীবন চালাতো। একদিন গাছ কাটতে গিয়ে তার কুড়াল গভীর পুকুরে পড়ে গেল। নিজের কুঠারের জন্য তিনি খুব চিন্তায় ছিলেন। সে তার কুড়ালের জন্য আরও বেশি করে কাঁদছিল কারণ তার আর কোনো কুড়াল ছিল না। তাই পুকুরের পাশের গাছের তলায় দীর্ঘক্ষণ বসে থাকতে এবং কান্না করতে থাকে। পুকুরটি অত্যন্ত গভীর এবং ভয়ানক হওয়ায় তার কিছুই করার ছিল না। তাই সে তার কুড়াল উদ্ধার করতে পারেনি। সে জোরে চিৎকার করতে করতে হঠাৎ একটা পরী বেরিয়ে এল পুকুরের গভীর জল থেকে। কাঠঠোকরা এই পরীকে দেখে ভয় পেয়ে গেল এবং তাকিয়ে রইলো। পরী তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলো "কেন কাঁদছো"। কাঠমিস্ত্রি তাকে সব খুলে বলল। তারপর পরী পুকুরে ডুবে গেল এবং সোনার কুড়াল নিয়ে আবার এল। পরী কাঠ কাটার কারিগরকে বলল, "ওটা কি তোমার কুড়াল"? কাঠমিস্ত্রি মনোযোগ সহকারে কুড়ালটি দেখে নেতিবাচক জবাব দিল। তারপর পরী আবার পুকুরে ডুবে গিয়ে আবার রূপার  একটি নিয়ে এল। সেই সময় আবার কাঠমিস্ত্রি উত্তর দিল যে এটা তার কুড়াল নয়। তখন পরী বুঝতে পারে তার সততার কথা। পরী তার প্রতি খুব খুশি হয়ে উঠল। তারপর পরী তৃতীয়বার পুকুরে ডুবে এই লোহার কুড়াল নিয়ে এলো। এটা ছিলো কাঠুরের কুঠার। এবার কাঠমিস্ত্রি তার কুড়াল চিনল এবং উত্তর দিল যে এটা তার কুঠার। তখন পরী কাঠ কাটার সততার কথা বুঝতে পেরে তার সততার প্রতিদান হিসেবে তাকে তিনটি কুড়াল দেয়। সোনা, রূপা ও লোহার কুড়াল পেয়ে কাঠমিস্ত্রি খুব খুশি হল। তার সততা তাকে বড় পুরস্কার দিল। কিছু দিন পর আরেক চতুর কাঠ কাটার লোক এই গল্প শুনল। আর সই পুকুর পাড়ে গিয়ে একটা গাছ কাটল। সোনা ও রূপার কুড়াল পাওয়ার জন্য সে তার কুড়ালটি পুকুরে ফেলে দেয়। সেই সময় পরী আবার সোনার কুড়াল নিয়ে এই পুকুর থেকে উঠে আসে। আর কাঠুরে কে জিজ্ঞেস করলো এটা কি তার? চালাক কাঠ কাটার তার চতুরতা মোকাবেলা না. সে উত্তর দিল যে এটা তার কুঠার। তখন পরী বুঝলো সে একজন চালাক আর মিথ্যাবাদী মানুষ। তাই, পরী এতক্ষণে উধাও। চালাক লোকটি তার লোহার কুড়ালও হারিয়েছে।
